The Living Room - As it is

Today, I'd like to introduce you to our Living Room as it is now.  Warts and all.  As you can see, a LOT of this stuff came from our other home here in KC (the Brookside house) and I've just arranged it and used it differently here.  It's always such a challenge to move and then figure out where you are going to put things when they were originally bought for another space.  Also, I'm just not sure I like the white walls.  I thought it might lighten and brighten, which it does.  But, it's just feeling a little stagnant to me.  Not sure it's me.  What do you think?

Ohhhh, the pink sofa.  It has traveled from KC to Chicago and back.  And, I am over it.  The pink anyway, not the sofa itself.  The plan is to reupholster it.  When, I don't know.  But, at some point, that sucker won't be pink anymore and I will rejoice.  The artwork however, is an absolute favorite of mine.  It's vintage and I bought it for an ungodly cheap amount. So, it will definitely be staying.   Oh, and see if you can count my cats.  That's David there on the sofa.

Here is another angle.  I've got a lot going on...I know.  The chairs were a $20 CL find, and of course will also be reupholstered sometime in the future.  But for now they are, what they are.  Extra places to sit.  I'm also looking for another chair for that corner there in front of the campaign shelf, I think.  I want something modern and clean-lined to offset all the girly antique-i-ness going on.  OH, and the rug will also be going.  What to replace it with, is still up in air, but it's gone when I find the right one.

As you know, my Ibex table is a prized possession of mine.  So, it will be staying.  It needs a good cleaning, but it will be staying.

As you can see, this side of the room is a hot mess.  I think I know what I want to do with it, but, I'm still deciding.  There's another shot of the chairs.  Ugh, rough!

So, what do you think?  Don't be too harsh!  Remember, this is a work in progress, and we've got a looong way to go.  It will be slow to progress as well, since reupholstering virtually everything costs a good amount of cash.  So, be patient with me.  I just wanted to show you the starting point.  Where we are now.  Hope you enjoyed this little mini tour.  I did.  ( =

'Til next time...

I love it. Your living room looks so unlike what I see in most shelter magazines, on Pinterest, and on other blogs. That's a good thing.

Thank you so much for your comment! It makes me feel good that even in it's undesirable state you think my living room is different and has its own voice. I don't want to be like everyone else! It's good to hear I'm accomplishing that. Means a lot!

I love love love your space also. If you add a few plants & a macrame piece, it would be the perfect Boho living room. (Currently my favorite style.)
Once you start reupholstering your pieces it will look “too decorated.” Hey, if it’s not broken...

Ha. I have secretly internet-lusted after your beautiful pink sofa since I first saw it. I will love to see what fabric you choose to reupholster it. The artwork is amazing!! But I have to echo your sentiments on the white walls-meh. Although before & afters are exciting, I enjoy the "durings"...they're inspirational and encouraging! Thanks for the peek.
