Purple in the Guest Bedroom

We have been making a big push to make this home our own.  Up til the last couple of months, I have to admit we had been complacent.  Downright lazy even, especially after the first wave of painting was over on the first floor.  I think we just got tired of painting and just....stopped.

So....I wasn't even feeling like it was home and we've been here well over a year. I'd looked around and see other peoples colors in my bedroom, others peoples ummmm, taste.  Something needed to be done, and so the paintbrushes came out (again,) and we are in the process of painting every square inch of the upstairs.

The project of the moment is the guest bedroom...

I'm concerned.

I'm concerned that I'm going to end up in Barney-land instead of chic-land.   Mind you, the name of this color is smoky mauve.  But, it is most definitely purple.  I started cutting in, and that's where the painting came to a screeching halt.  The further in I got, the more purple it got.  I might just be overreacting.  You know how you do when something catches you off guard and seems soooo extreme, when really it's minor.    Yeah, that's where I am.

So, just for my own comfort, I decided to find some other "Barney" rooms....

I think I'm going to go ahead and paint it, and live with it a couple of days to see how I feel.   I'll let you know what I decide.

What about you...thoughts?

It looks more gray than purple to me and quite fabulous.

The Angie Hranowsky room is purple perfection. I like your color it is muted - not Barney. I'm sure you will love the finished product.

You are seeing it out of context with everything else that will be happening in the room.
Trust you skills. You'll make it look great!

i say definitely finish it out, get some furniture in place and maybe some art "on the walls" and see how you feel. you might be surprised! it looks like a pretty glorious color to me.

I think the color you picked is gorgeous! It will look more purple juxtaposed with the yellowish shade you already had on the wall so painting it all will probably tone things down for you, especially when decorated with appropriate furniture and accents. Keep going, I think it'll turn out great!

I have a deep eggplant dining room so i may be biased but I think you should finish it. Its always easy to get scared by a big change like paint but i have no doubt with your skills it will look awesome when the room is all zhushed up!
