Came across an artist this week by the name of Ryan Pickart and was inspired enough to build a room around one of his pieces. I was utterly drawn in by his subjects and his depiction of them. In virtually every one of them, it's the eyes that get me. Everything is so vivid, and yet there is a dreamlike quality as well.
I would guess my husband might call them on the creepy side, with their direct, unblinking stare. But, I think that might be what I like about them. There seems to be such power behind those eyes (even the softer ones.) Maybe I'm hoping to channel it. You know, have it on my wall and every time I walk by it, gather a little more strength from her. Crazy? Maybe. But, isn't that what art is all about? Making the viewer feel something? Get a reaction. Even if it's indifference. That's my opinion anyway.
So what do you think? Does it do anything for you?
