Let's Talk Rugs...

...Specifically, rugs for my dining room.

Here is how it looked last time you saw it (below.)  One coat of black paint on the trim and a virtual mess.  BUT, all the painting is finished now (I love!) and all that's left is to scrape the windows and put the buffet back in place.  I plan to do that tomorrow.  Oh, and to those who were asking about the massive artwork on the wall, don't worry I will get to that in a future post.  I just wanted to remind you how it looked so you can envision the options in their possible habitat.

Also, I think the decision has been made.  Rustic wood table it is!  So keep that in mind too.

First up on the rug agenda, are the black and white options.  You know those were going to be thrown in there.  Goodness know I love me some black and white.  It's just so simple, crisp and classic.  This one adds a good graphic and modern punch...

Here's the second B and W option.  Classic narrow stripes.

This third one is stepping outside my normal parameters.  I love leopard print, but this baby has a lot of leopard to give.  I'm not usually this, ummm, flamboyant.  But, there is something about it that I absolutely adore, and think could go very well with this room.

Alright, so, I might lose some of you on this last one.  In fact, I posted this room a while ago, with a similar rug to show you some of my dining inspiration spaces.

This one was literally laughed at because it was impractical.  Which is absolutely fine.  I wasn't offended at all.  In fact I thought it was kind of funny that the rug was what people didn't like about the room, and it was one of the things that attracted me to it.

The deal here is, it is a formal dining room.  Meals will rarely be eaten in here.  Which means I don't have to worry about the impracticality of the rug.  I like that it bucks the norm.  It's definitely different, and if you've learned anything about me thus far, it's that I like to be different. So, I'm really digging that last option.  We'll see.  Just thought I might give you a glimpse into what's rolling around this little brain of mine.

Curious to hear your opinions.  Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

Being that I'm known for being impractical...I love the last option. It's a complete show stopper. That said, my second choice is the leopard. It's classic, bold, sexy and very fun. Just my two cents!

My first instinct was the black and white from PBteen. But I do love the possibilities of the white shag. Maybe you should go for it and if it doesn't work you can always find an other use for a rug like that!

I'd go for the white - but I would take it up when you have a dinner party. White rug + red wine - oh oh!!

GOSH, the stripes would look good in there! but it is a teeny bit predictable (albeit in all of the best ways!)...I'm with Brandi; if the shag doesn't work out, surely there's another room for it. Or another house for that matter.... :)

I can totally see the black and white in your space, the obvious choice, but seeing the white shag, well it just might be the item needed to make it different! And as Brandi said, if it doesn't make the cut you can always use it somewhere else!

Digging the white shag but I'm with Julie, the leopard is a close second. Where did you find the white shag? Just curious. I love the dining room with the shag when you featured it but then I love shag rugs!

Nichole,
Love the graphic rug! The white shag-not so much. Because... I always thought a rug was suppose to define the specific area it was utilized for. For me-it is hard to appreciate the grandeur because there is no contrast ..cept for the pink flowers. Can't appreciate the beauty of the room when there is no real contrast-almost invisible somehow. Now the graphic rug-I think would show off everything else that is great in the room. Thanks for sharing!

I'm agreeing with the latter - I LOVE the white shag!
I've been dying for an excuse to use one of these.. with 2 dogs and being spill prong I can't quite pull the trigger - so you should!!

The only one I just don't feel is the leopard. Feels a little too Jersey Shore to me, but maybe I'm biased - I hate animal prints =)

Love the black trim in your dining room - the white shag is fabulous - do it before you care how often it may get spilled on! :)

I love the first one. I can't believe it's PB Teen. The last one is awesome too. I'd like it for a bedroom. Might even sleep on it too.

Um, do you have a cat? If you have a cat and you like him even just a little, you should buy that last rug for your dining room. He'll think he's died and gone to heaven. I know mine would hide out under the table all afternoon and knead his adorable little paws on it all day. Seriously, if I can't have beaded, fringed or feathered pillows, I could at least have a fuzzy rug.

The white shag looks simply wonderful to dig your toes into, but I know I could't manage it in my house with four cats! :)

My favorite, though, is the leopard print rug. I feel like the black and white graphic rugs are a bit too harsh, and with the white walls and black trim, you might want something softer on the floor. It'll add some warmth. Of course, the white shag rug is pretty soft, too, but I think the subdued colors of a funky leopard print would be perfect.

Can't wait to see which you choose!

I love the leopard... I've been trying to find a place in my own home for that exact rug! I also love te white shag...although it does seem a tiny bit impractical. Can't wait to see the amazing way you pull it all together.
