TV Integration
So, I fought the idea of having a TV in our upstairs living room mainly because, they are big black holes that tend to become the focal of any room they are in. I'm not a fan of that. However, they are also, kind of an important part of family life (for better or worse,) and I enjoy being in the living room more than I do in the man cave (basement) where the big TV is. So, I gave in and am now considering ways to integrate a TV into my living room as seamlessly as possible. This salon wall, built around the TV is my favorite option and most likely the direction I will go when our second TV is bought and finds it's final home in our LR.
Shown are a couple of great examples of what I am talking about. They don't completely disappear but they also aren't so jarring either. They are part of a larger composition, which helps the big black box to become a little less of a focal point, and yet still, is obviously there when needed. Problem solved.

I always struggle with the aesthetic v.s. functional aspects of a TV in a room and as a result spend too much creative energy figuring out how to downplay this modern must. I see I'm not alone.
love both images...but what about all the wires & components...drives me bonkers too!
I've always liked the idea of a television on a black wall. It seems like it would blend in much more. (At least when off!)
I love the off centered one...more appealing! xoxo
Hmm! I like the first pic! But I am wanting those acrylic helves in the second!!!! Hope you had a great holiday.
Hey...loving the new look over here! And so with you on the mask the TV business...love the idea of surrounding it with artwork.
Oh I love both examples...a beautiful room helps tremendously. :-) Our big honkin tv is on a navy wall which works for me for now. But what about when I inevitably paint to white??? Hmmm...
Great ideas. Ps I love the new header.
That looks great! Awesome problem solving!
I love what the lady from John's Journal did here: http://johnsjournal-maria.blogspot.com/2010/08/art-over-tv-diy.html
Absolutely fabulous :)
I hear you. We have two big TVs in our living areas, thanks to my TV aficionado bf. We’ve agreed to hide them in the next house because as much as I love watching it occasionally, they are definitely an eyesore!
I saw a photo where they hung the tv on a gallery wall and found frames the same thickness and glossy black as the frame of the tv. It blended in perfectly. I'm with you on trying to hide it though.
I did this with our computer screen over our desk. It's worked great, and I love that it blends in with the aesthetic of the room now. It's a good way to go!
