Skirting It

So here's the deal.  Above I am showing you the entire disaster that is my wall of shelves, I only showed you the semi-pretty part before.  I am making myself very vulnerable so go easy on me kids.  Please observe the eye sore that is below the TV area behind the chairs (that need to be reupholstered.)  Yeah, that has to be fixed.  I hate looking at Dvd's, electronics, and just general messiness.  So the plan is to make a skirt to cover it all up.  Or at least most of it.  I am trying to figure out exactly what to use and how to do it.

I have been contemplating this ever since we decided to rent the place, because I knew it would need to  be done.  I don't want anything too bold or brash.  But, I don't want to be boring either.  I need to have just the right balance.

So with that, here are a few of my ideas.  First, simple but luxe.  A little bit of silk taffeta for a full skirt feel in either a pale blush or a pale lavender.

Another thought, is print.  Perhaps something of the black and white variety....

I'm leaning more towards the floral. Or, even maybe a little toile.  I love toile. Then again it might be a little too busy for the space.

Ehhh, who knows. But, the decision will be made soon, as I'm tired of looking at the mess below the TV.    So, that's where I am now.  Just narrowing things down and making decisions.  I'll keep you informed.  Hope everyone has a lovely day!

I vote black floral. But if you're going to keep those chairs in the same spot, it might be too much black (if you factor in the black TV as well)...

i say, pick the fabric for those chairs first and than something that will coordinate with it in the back for the skirt :)

Oh, yes....the fabric for the chairs is already chosen. Cream fur.

The black and white floral Schumacher is my favorite...but who cares about what I like--all of these options would be great for your space, Nichole!

LOVE those chairs. LOVE.

my 2 cents (and i'm no pro) would be to go for a pattern. that way, the inevitable busyness of the shelves isn't an immediate focus. it will keep the visual eye candy moving.

i am deathly afraid of open shelving. you have some great pieces over there! just keep playing until you're happy. it'll get there :)

I think a black and cream damask would be nice

Well if you're going for cream fur on the chairs you could do anything! I would personally do something with a little pink in it. Beautiful space!
