Letter From a Hormonal Reader

That title got your attention didn't it!  I got this sweet little note from Chelsi in my email inbox yesterday and thought I would share.  Thanks for the Q Chelsi, SO glad that I have inspired you in any way at all!  Here is what she wrote...

Nichole,
Just wanted to show you my "nesting" work which you have inspired me to do..  I am almost 6 months pregnant and realized that there were about a million things that I want to do or have my hubby do before the baby...
We had this desk in our basement and I wanted to throw it away but once I saw your blog I fell in love and officially became inspired.. The hormones helped that too :)
I had all the supplies at home and just decided to paint it so my 4.5 year old could have a desk in her room.  I wanted her to feel like a Big Sister more than a lot of the toddler things that she has...
So yeah.. Its still sitting in my basement for now until I get a chair painted and a bookshelf refinished which I am thinking of doing something similar to.  Any suggestions on the shelf? I just love it because it will display all the cool books that she has. I am sure you get tons of email but I wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your blog and get a lot of great ideas from it...
Thanks
Chelsi

Below is her finished desk.  Doesn't it look fantastic!

As for the bookshelf... I'm thinking a little color might be the route to go.  As you probably know from my blog/designs, I am a mixer not a matcher.  If it were me, I would paint the shelf a vibrant yellow or a kelly green and do a little distressing with sandpaper around the edges.  That way, when the books beat it all to heck (as they will, especially with kids,) it will just add to the charm of it, and not look sad and used up.  Just my take.  Hope that helps, and thanks again for the note.  It made me smile!  Oh, and good luck with those hormones...and of course, your lovely new baby!

I would love to find a bookshelf like that for my kids rooms... I like your idea of adding the distressing... great solution for kids furniture. The desk turned out great!
