Housing Works

I have been invited to Housing Works, Design on a Dime fundraising event this evening, and I am a little bit nervous, (my first event here in NYC) and a lotta bit excited about it. Can you believe they are going to let people like me in for free just to cover it...they called me "Press." Crazy. What's the world coming to. Here was their pitch...

"Housing Works Thrift Shops sixth annual Design on a Dime fundraising event kicks off with the Opening Night Reception on Thursday, May 6th at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Join us for New York City’s most popular interior design benefit event, where you’ll enjoy exclusive preview shopping, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and live entertainment."

Ummmm...yeah, they must have made a mistake in inviting me...but, shhhhhh, don't rat me out...I wanta go. Here is what they do as an organization, in their own words...

"Save more than just money on thousands of items donated by people like you to our thrift shops. Every dollar you spend helps us give a second chance to thousands of homeless New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS."

This quote came from the top of the Shop Housing Works page. Sounds like a worthy cause to me. Good for me, good for people who need help...we are talking a win-win here kids. They also have thrift shops across the NYC area that sell high-end housewares and fashion, to provide $12 million in funding per year for this amazing organization. You can even shop online! They have a ton of auctions on anything and everything you can think of. We are not talking junk here either. This is high-end, high-quality stuff, for crazy, not so high-end prices. Here are a few examples of what they offer...

Ooooooohhhhh, yes. Very nice indeed. If this is any indication of what is happening this evening...I believe, I am in for a treat. I didn't even even touch on the fashion department though. But, believe me when I say, it is stellar.

SO, if you are in the neighborhood and feel like supporting a fabulous cause, please check out the details for the event and do drop in. There will be auctions for all of the donated merch. over the next couple of days, that are free to attend, and from what I understand, provide amazing deals for buyers. As for me, I will be back with pictures, lots of pictures. Til then, have a lovely day and evening...adieu.
